Somerset Filbert is a standout hazelnut tree cultivar bred for exceptional productivity and disease resistance in the eastern and midwestern United States. Especially in regions with high pressure from Eastern Filbert Blight (EFB). Developed at Rutgers University, Somerset has rapidly gained popularity among orchardists and backyard growers for its outstanding performance and ease of care. Known as “the crazy productive one,” Somerset can produce up to 53lb of nuts per mature tree in optimal conditions. It is extremely precocious, often bearing heavy crops at a young age.
